I read this article in the NZ Herald about being yourself it summarises a lot of peoples lives.
In truth we
are always fighting to be ourselves with that “free to be me” ideal, however it
is society that dictates how we should act and behave.
When
someone speaks out about a touchy subject that person is subjected to abuse and
ridicule. Judged to the max and executed via media and our social networks yet
the silent majority sit and agree with that one person who merely pointed out
what the rest of us were thinking.
This is the
world we live in and it is a world where you are never free to be your true
self. Everything we say or do is scrutinised while the vultures circle awaiting
that one slip up.
One of the causes
of anxiety and depression is the inability to be ourselves. This suppression of
being ones self is built up over many years until one day a trigger is pulled or
we decide enough is enough.
Alas the
fight to be free continues.
