Mall Patrol

If ya thinking I do my security job for the money ya 'all sadly mistaken.

I nearly had a fractured skull,  missed been run down by a car by a bees dick, been spat at, verbally abused, physically threatened, been shot at, pissed on, vomited on and had various objects thrown at me.
It's all apart of life as a security mall officer.
This doesn't mean malls ain't safe places to go to it means that when someone decides to break the rules of society, to break the policies or procedure's of the mall then anything can happen and usually does.

The majority of these offenders just don't care. They have no conscience, nor do they have any concept of the effect their actions have on others.
If it happened to them, if their bag was stolen, car broken into, or family threatened they would be all up in arms demanding justice.

Yet as the offender when they are caught out they are all up in arms about being wrongly done by.

The mall I work at is privately owned and is at the cutting edge of retail shopping. By privately owned I mean they own the buildings and the land. This entitles the owners to have their own special rules for shoppers to follow. This mall is NOT a public place it is a private owned mall that allows the public to enter providing you follow the rules.

The rules are no different from public malls, there are of some differences but nothing that stands out.

So here we go.
NO wearing of hoodies  in the mall.

This means that any jacket that has a hood attached the said hood must not be placed on ya head. Inside the mall ...... for those that don't fully understand the terminology, you can be at the mall and wear it outside or in open areas.

Reason:- It is seen as intimidating to the majority of shoppers. When ya read further down ya will understand where I am coming from and the incident below is perfect example of why people feel intimidated. There is also the connection betwen gangs / criminal element. There is no need to wear it in the mall as heating or cooling is provided and rain does not come into the mall as it has a roof. Of course there is the CCTV security side of it be visually seen. (Why hide?)

Big strapping young man wearing his hoodie out shopping with his family.
"Hi there Sir, Could you please remove your hood whilst in the mall. It is the malls policy."
The young man around 20ish looks at me and half pulls his hood back. He glares at me as if I had done something wrong. His partner ushers him away and mutters something about being embarrassed.
I bid a thank you and carry on my patrols.

One hour later the same young man has his hood on again. Once again I ask him to remove it explaining the company policy.
However.........Oh yes you got it ............... the young man suffers an attitude disorder and decides that his hood stays on and he walks away.
Obviously I am committed to following through with my efforts to persuade the young man to change his mind and do as requested.

OH NO!. Out come the abuse and threats.
I call for back up and inform the young man if he refuses to remove the hood he must leave the mall immediately.
He slowly walks down the mall as I update my manager on the situation.

You know the walk, arms bowed gunslinger hands and the homosexual walk (The walk where the buns are held tight together ta stop ya self shitting ya pants!)

Fortunately while relaying information to my manager the young man expresses his desire to have sex with me and damage certain parts of my anatomy as well as suggesting than my relationship with other cultures is not quite up to scratch. He then carries on with said abuse.

My manager had over heard the abuse  over the RT while he was in a meeting with the police.
As the young man heads towards the exit door I am greeted by the young mans partner and mother who both decide that the man has been unjustly treated and that I must now receive more abuse and threats.

As we enter the car park my manager and police come over.
All of a sudden the group become less verbal.
The police ask the young man why he did not follow my request to take the hood down. The man has no answer. The 2 females want to argue over public and private property insisting that this mall is a public place. The police explain things and the young man is given a verbal warning about his behaviour. He promises to be a good boy from now on.

Tell me something... Why not just take the hood down and get on with whatever ya are doing?

Whitesnakes do it better ................ Where was the point?
